My mother of Colombian Ecuadorian descent immigrated at 12 years old. On my fathers side my grandparents immigrated from a small village near Naples in Italy. I witnessed my mother work 6-7 days a week as a front-end manager at a supermarket, and my father was an executive at Prudential. I learned many of my character traits from them such as hard work, integrity, resilience, determination, love and faith. Both of my parents were strict but I always managed to get in trouble somehow. No matter how much trouble I caused though, my dad would always leave notes in random places throughout the house with quotes from leaders to help me understand what it meant to be a leader. He would also talk to me about business and the stock market. The first book he gave me was Rich Dad, Poor Dad.
In high school, I strayed down the wrong path and ended up in a gang to protect me from all the bullying I encountered throughout my childhood with a near death experience. It hit me hard during my last year in High School when my friends shared their acceptance into top universities, and I realized I had no direction or plans for the future. Later, after being accepted to Caldwell College, known as "Last Chance College," I came to the painful realization that traditional education wasn’t for me and that I wanted to learn how to build businesses online. Determined to live life on my own terms, I discovered a mentor who inspired me to drop out and fully commit to entrepreneurship, ultimately becoming the best decision of my life and reshaping my future.
At 20, I worked 18-hour days with no pay for my first mentor, learning everything I could about business, the stock market, and making money online. By 24, I launched StockSpot.com, a platform for stock traders, and turned it into a $10 million business becoming the first millionaire in my family. I was living the dream—traveling, buying exotic cars, and partying on yachts—until the 2008 stock market crash wiped out everything I had built.
After losing everything, I used my last savings to turn my apartment into an office and, with two 19-year-old interns, launched Elite Daily—a publication for Millennials, by Millennials. By 2015, it became the largest Millennial-focused online publication, reaching 80 million monthly readers and turning into my second 8-figure business by 30 years old. In 2015, we won 4 Emmy’s and sold it to Daily Mail for $50 million, and I was recognized as one of Silicon Alley’s Top 100 Most Influential Entrepreneurs. Despite the success, I felt called to do more.
I hired my friend Jeff to help launch my first show, Leaders Create Leaders, where we filmed stories of impactful leaders and the movements they built. We produced everything ourselves and shared it for free on Youtube in partnership with Entrepreneur Magaziner, traveling the world to capture these stories. In the same year, I won Magic Johnson’s 32 Under 32 Entrepreneur of the Year award for building a social impact incubator, Fownders, teaching minorities Entrepreneurship, Emotional Intelligence, and Financial Literacy in Newark, NJ. I also co-produced several documentaries exposing the debt crisis of America and became the President of The National Inflation Association. By 2017, my brand online evolved into a powerful movement, earning me the title of The Millennial Mentor™ and the Leadership Maverick Award for New Jersey.
