I’m so excited to share with you guys that I had the epic opportunity to sit down with the man, the myth, the legend — Gary Vaynerchuk.

Some of you may have heard of him. For those of you who aren’t familiar, he’s a powerhouse serial entrepreneur, social media strategy guru, and relentless creator. His company Vaynermedia provides social media strategy to some huge Fortune 500 companies, he has four books published — the most recent of which, #AskGaryVee is a huge inspiration of mine, and he curses like a sailor. He keeps it real.

I feel super connected to Gary because he also grew up in New Jersey, has a fighting spirit, and wants to help other people crush it in business and in life. He’s an animal, and an inspiration to many.

In this week’s episode of LeadersCreateLeaders I sit down with Gary and talk shop. He covers some really important points about mindset, hard work, and not pretending like or expecting that things are handed to you.

Gary talks about the importance of family, and how his parents had a real influence on shaping his ability to create and drive continued success. In episode 2 I covered this same topic — you’ve gotta give back to the people that give to you. It’s inspiring when people create epic lives but don’t forget about where they came from and who helped them get there. It’s definitely part of creating what I believe to be a legacy.

I also wanted to share with you top takeaways from Gary’s most recent book, because I think they’re important guidelines to keep in mind in all situations, not just in your entrepreneurial grind. Being a successful entrepreneur is one thing, but being a cool ass good-hearted person at the same time is another!

Gary does break it down to staying competitive — but doing it in a way that serves you. In the video you’ll hear him talk about this. He’s also got several commandments for keeping it real that I want to leave you with:

  • Bring value to the customer.
  • Provide 51 percent of the value in a relationship, whether it’s with an employee, a client, or a stranger.
  • Always play the long game of lifetime value.
  • Smart work will never replace hard work; it only supplements it.
  • People are your most important commodity.
  • Patience matters.
  • Never be romantic about how you make your money.
  • Try to put yourself out of business daily.
